Sharing Stories, Changing Lives
with Nicola Grove
Sharing our life experiences is one of the most important skills that any child can learn. We tell stories every day of our lives, to make friends, to explain ourselves, to make sense of the world and to remember the good times – and the difficult challenges. For young people with severe or profound learning disabilities, their stories are often told by others on their behalf. This session will introduce the principles and practice of Storysharing®, which focuses on the co-telling of small everyday events, known in Narrative Theory as “small stories”.
The focus is on authentic contributions by the young people themselves in co-produced narrative, developing their skills not only as tellers, but as listeners. Storysharing forms part of the Equals My Communication curriculum.
