My Communication: Motivation; Means and Mate

In Person Training Course

£120 – Brackenfield School in Nottingham

This course dives into the My Communication Scheme of Work by Equals and is delivered by one of its editors and authors – Peter Imray.

This course will explain how pupils with severe learning difficulties can be supported to communicate using the 3 essentials of Motivation (a reason to communicate); Means (a method of communicating) and Mate (someone to communicate with).

The course will equip delegates with the skills and knowledge of how to deliver specific sessions and practice these (if they wish) with our own pupils at Brackenfield SEND School.

Peter will take you through Call and Response which is a fantastic language and communication activity which also helps develops awareness; turn taking and anticipation.  This activity can be used with non-verbal pupils and verbal pupils.

Narrative is also a focus of the day which is brilliant tool for supporting pupils to develop memory and their ability to tell other people about their lives in their own words – to use their own voice. This is a language and communication activity that is aimed at more verbal pupils.

Online CPD Sessions

“Love these courses, it is like having a university lecture/tutorial”

“I love listening to the evidence based information”

“All the information was presented simply and efficiently. It was interesting and the time passed very quickly. An excellent training session”

Rodney House School – Manchester

We feel the online training delivered by EQUALS have been WONDERFUL.  The relevance and depth of the sessions has been fantastic, Peter is a very knowledgeable man. Having training delivered online has enabled all our teachers to attend and have discussions after the event rather than one teacher attending and disseminating which can water down the content.
Thank you so much and keep them coming!

Peter Imray

“Lets focus on things that matter”.

“For those with a profound learning difficulty (PMLD), learning is best done when the learner is placed in the centre of the curriculum”.

Priory Woods School – Middlesbrough

“The Semi-formal Curriculum meets the needs of our special children and we feel more able to promote what the children need rather than being constrained by subject areas”.

“Freedom to be creative and concentrate on individual needs with a focus on independence”.
