Curriculum Pathways
with Peter Imray
The Equals charity has developed and published curriculum and assessment materials since 1994. In recent years work has progressed in relation to newer schemes of work for Pre-formal, Informal, Semi-formal and formal. During this session Peter Imray will talk through these Curriculum pathways. This is also an opportunity for schools to ask questions and talk about their own pupils. It seems to be commonplace for special schools to describe their curriculum as being delivered through ‘pathways’, but what does that actually mean? Equals argues that for schools to be regarded as specialist (rather than just special) they need to be delivering Pre-Formal, Informal and Semi-Formal Pathways which recognise that pupils and students with Profound, Complex and Severe Learning Disabilities learn differently from each other and very, very differently from nuero-typical, conventionally developing learners. That is, the Pathways need to be different to, rather than differentiated from, the National Curriculum.
